I show a lot of studio work with my maternity clients.  I suppose it’s because it’s usually what the gals want.  But I really wanted to photograph a funky maternity.  When one of my sweet brides from last year became pregnant, I KNEW I just had to photograph her!  When I contacted her, she asked me specifically what I wanted to do.  I told her that I wanted a sort of vintage bride feel.  She really ran with it, and although the poor thing had swollen ankles and was uncomfortable at around 36 weeks along, she was a total trooper!  It was no surprise to me when I found out that she has actually modeled before.  She is a COMPLETE natural in front of the camera.  Thanks, Shelly, for letting me photograph you and your sweetie .  I’m pretty sure she’s wrapped her way around Mommy and Daddy’s fingers by now!  Enjoy your new baby girl and Consider Yourselves Loved…

My good friend and colleague, Diana Palmer of Yan Photography, is pregnant with her third baby.  While we met up for some “colleague time” (who am I kidding…friend time), we went outside, no further than about 200 feet from my house and shot these maternity photographs.

Diana, my friend, I know you were thinking you didn’t want to do these, but I am so glad you did.  Believe it or not, there will be a time, VERY soon, where you will actually miss being pregnant.  You’re going to be glad you have these.  Enjoy your Feature, and Consider Yourselves Loved…

I had the wonderful privilege of photographing this couple’s wedding in January 2008.  Through these last couple of years, I see Jamie now as not only a client, but a friend as well.  It was a great honor to photograph her 2nd maternity journey last weekend.  She brought a ton of her own clothing/props, which made this session very personal to her!  We also decided to take my trusty $15 Craigslist chair to the sagebrush.  What fun!

This lovely couple was actually scheduled for their maternity session on September 23rd, but I had to delay their session originally because my son hit his head and was in the “doc-in-the-box” getting checked out.  Later on that evening, I realize I would have had to reschedule anyway, since that was when Cece was going to make her debut!  They were so understanding about the delay.  We ended up doing the session a couple of weeks after Cece’s birth and it was perfect timing!!!

I loved photographing the two of you – you are so in love and it is so fun to witness!!!  You look GORGEOUS, Kristy, and I can’t wait to photograph your beautiful baby boy in a few weeks .  You’re getting soooo close!!!  Enjoy your feature and consider yourselves loved…

So – even though I am such an advocate for maternity portraits, with myself, I still feel uneasy posing in front of the camera…although I don’t think that’s simply because I am pregnant…I just have a hard time being on the other side of the lens – although, if you ask a few of my photography-girls, they’ll probably reveal that I come out of my shell after a bit .  

The last “progression” maternity portraits I’ve done was at 24 weeks, so I decided to do another set today, the day before my 32nd week.  It’s really hard to believe that I had actually given birth to my son at this point in my pregnancy with him.  I am so thankful to have Cecelia bake a little longer than he did!  However – I think I will have her early.  Only time will tell, I suppose!

And – I got my hair done again by my stylist Jacque Otteson at Ingrid’s Hair Design.  She ROCKS!!!  I just love getting my hair done – it makes me feel so girlly .  

I had a great time with this couple on Thursday!  They greeted me at their door with their beautiful lab, Reagan.  I decided to set up a quick studio in their house in addition to photographing some of the other locations around their home.  I can’t wait to meet your son – congratulations!!!
