Coming Up For Air | Boise Photographer

May 12th, 2012

Wow.  I can’t believe it.  Lumuli has graduated.  *sigh*.  I have found myself crying in the grocery store, in the car, while I run and of course, at the ceremony this week. I am crying out of pure relief.

You know how when you’re swimming under water, or even just holding your breath, and then when you are at your last point of holding your breath, you come up for air and all of the pressure building inside of your body dissipates?  Well, that’s how it felt today.

I have been supporting our family on the income from Ashki Photography since September of 2008.  And although I have an amazing clients who have been so supportive, it is still a stressful thing to solely support the family on the salary from a small business – especially a business that depends on commission.  Not knowing exactly where the income will come from is a tough thing at times.

One of my good friends, Diana Palmer wrote a controversial article on her photography blog a few months ago.  A line that she wrote has stuck with me since the moment I read the post.  ”Behind the “we” is a “me” “.  I can relate to that so much.  Although I don’t often say “We” in writing about our…AHEM…MY business, I can relate to the thought that there is a REAL person behind every decision, behind every marketing campaign, behind every sale, behind every promotion, behind the camera.  Before all of that, I am a person.  I am a woman, married to a man who loves passionately.  I am a woman who has several insecurities just like everyone else.  I am a woman who makes mistakes as a parent, wife, business owner.  I am woman who cries over hallmark commercials.  I am a woman who is incapable of loving her children more.  I am a woman who, although may have seemed to be put together, was desperately seeking air.  Well.  I’ve come up for air.

I still can’t believe I get to be a photographer for a living.  I still am in awe that I am able to support my family on the income from Ashki Photography.  I still love that I get to help people see how beautiful they really are.  But now?  Now I can smell the flowers along this journey.  Rather than keeping my sights on the future and how we’re going to keep our family going, I can enjoy the present, knowing that our hard work has finally paid off.

Lumuli graduated.  I am so proud of him.  What was supposed to be a much shorter journey has turned into double the amount of time it was initially expected to take.  He is now an Electrical Engineer.  His  perseverance, dedication and desire to take care of his family has finally paid off.  I am so.proud.of.my.husband.

Happy Easter | Boise Photographer

April 8th, 2012

Some people avoid politics.  Some people avoid finances.  Some people avoid religion.  I avoid religion, too.  But I cannot avoid integrating my personal relationship with Jesus Christ into my every day living.  When someone affects you to such a degree, you can’t help but share.  On this amazing Easter Sunday, I am reminded again for Christ’s sacrifice for me.  While I was yet a sinner, He died for me.  And although he died, he rose again and is alive to this day.  He was perfection in Human form and bridged the gap between me and God.  Jesus did this for me.  He affected me.  He still affects me.  And I am incapable of hiding that.

Happy Easter, Sweet People.

Happy Anniversary to US! | Boise Photographer

March 20th, 2012

Wow.  I can’t believe it’s been 8 years.  8 years since Lumuli and I took that step of faith to become husband and wife.  I remember the day very well.  I remember getting so excited that the man that I  had spent the last 5 years away from was now going to be my husband.  I am still excited about him.  Even after 8 years.  Love you, Baby.
